The Pencil Dress – 1950′s lady like chic
The 1950′s were a time of serious style and the period when the classic pencil dress became very popular. Also known as the sheath dress, the pencil dress is narrow-fitted, tailored to fit the curves of the woman’s body and most importantly should have a lady like hem that sits close to the knee.
So with Spring here and the Melbourne Cup coming up the pencil dress should be on your radar!. The silhouette of this dress is a timeless classic and after the Spring racing season is over you’ll be pulling it out of your wardrobe time and time again!
- Take some inspiration from Miranda Kerr looking very lady like chic in this floral pencil dress by British/Turkish Designer Erdem. Erdem is such a talented elegant designer! Only problem is one of these luxe Erdem babies goes for around AUD$1500. But I discovered some purse friendly alternatives!
Have a poke around at The Pretty Dress Company. I’m liking the Seville Retro Hourglass dress GBP£89.00. Delivery is GBP£12.95. Their website looks like it needs a makeover but from what I can see the brand has a bit of a cult following in the UK. Check out The Pretty Dress Company’s celebrity board on Pinterest.
And another brand with a cult following but this time in the US. Heather Gramham wears the Stop Staring Clothing Flora dress USD$158.00. Delivery USD$44. This pencil floral is just so cute! ❤
If you want to buy a dress from a brand I can vouch for then get it from Karen Millen. I absolutely love this brand and you can now buy online locally in Australia. I love the Karen Millen Floral Print Dress AUD$325.00. And the delivery is AUD$FREE! But be quick as there are not many sizes left!
If your a girl who is not into florals then go for a single bold Spring colour like Only Way is Essex actress Lucy Mecklenburgh and break up the colour with a pencil thin belt. (I’m not a big fan of her or the show but this dress does look great!). She wears The Pretty Dress Company’s Aqua Valentina Sweetheart pencil dress GBP£89.00. Delivery GDP£12.95.
